SCHEDULE A TEST DRIVE
Overview
The F-150 is likely to hold its rank as America’s best-selling light-duty pickup while remaining the most popular vehicle in the Ford lineup. Like its predecessors, the 2024 F-150 offers powerful engines (remarkably fuel efficient for full-sized pickups), diverse body styles, and loads of creature comforts and driver assistance technology. The new F-150 multitasks effectively as a workhorse, family vehicle, and ticket to weekend adventures.
Who’s It For?
The 2024 F-150 targets a wide variety of drivers. The market includes tradesmen and rugged outdoorsy types; soccer moms focused on safety features and ample interior space; as well as executives who expect comfort, performance, and visible reminders that they enjoy a life outside the boardroom. The F-150 similarly accommodates diverse budgets, depending on how the buyer cherry-picks from mind-boggling configuration choices. This pickup comes in 10 trims (the XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Platinum Plus, Tremor, Raptor, and Raptor R); six engines (all with 10-speed automatic transmission); three cab styles (regular, SuperCab and SuperCrew), three bed lengths (dependent on the cab style); and the choice of rear-wheel or four-wheel-drive.

What’s New for 2024?
For 2024, Ford gave the F-150 its first overhaul in three years. At first glance, the changes are mostly cosmetic, with more refined exterior features. The lower-priced trims, for example, now have front grilles extending for the full vehicle width and wrapping around the headlights in a manner reminiscent of the 1970s. That nostalgic touch notwithstanding, the new F-150 has decidedly 21st-century technology, with the previously optional 12-inch infotainment display now standard. Some entirely new tech features include the Pro-Access Tailgate (a tripartite gate with a side-opening segment allowing easy access to the bed, even with a trailer attached), Blue Cruise hands-free driving (with a monthly or annual subscription), and an anti-theft tracking system. In addition, Ford scrapped the diesel engine and replaced the former base V-6 gas engine with the turbocharged 2.7L V-6 (previously an option).
Real World Performance
For a full-sized pickup, the 2024 F-150 is surprisingly nimble, in both highway and downtown traffic conditions, with quick steering, seamless shifting, and powerful braking. As one might expect from a muscular engine, acceleration is impressive: zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds for the Tremor. Different driving modes allow effortless adjustment to varying road conditions, from regular to tow/haul, off-road, and rock-crawl conditions. The two off-roading Raptors can handle the road less traveled in relative comfort, thanks to the rebound valves in Fox shock absorbers.
